Remove Annotations

Quick Answer: Remove Annotations takes notes off a PDF. An annotation is a note, comment or highlight that someone added on top of a page. It is not part of the original text. This tool removes those added notes, so the file you share looks clean and final.

What it does, in plain words

When a teacher, boss or friend reviews a draft, they often add comments in the margin, which is the blank edge of a page. They may also highlight, which means mark, a sentence in yellow. These marks are useful while you are fixing the draft. They are not useful in the final file. A client should not see a note that says, fix this paragraph. A teacher should not see an old comment on a final essay.

Removing annotations does not delete your main text. It only removes the added layer: the comments, the highlights, and the notes. Your paragraphs, tables and pictures stay. That is the difference between this tool and deleting pages. Deleting pages removes content. Removing annotations removes only the review marks on top of it.

How to use Remove Annotations — step by step

  1. Open the Remove Annotations tool on PDFOnlineEditor.
  2. Choose the draft PDF that still has comments or highlights on it.
  3. Click the process or remove button. You do not need to pick each note one by one.
  4. Download the result and open it. Go to a page that had a comment before. The comment should be gone.
  5. Read one full page. Your main text should read smoothly, with no missing words where a note used to be.

A worked example

Ayesha wrote a draft report. Her teacher added comments and highlights on five pages. Ayesha fixed every point, and now the report is final. She does not want the teacher to see the old comments again, and she does not want a client to see a note that says, check this number. She uses this tool to remove comments and highlights from pdf before sharing final version. She opens the result, checks the five pages, and finds them clean. The main text is untouched. Now she can send the final version with confidence.

This is the same job as clean reviewer notes out of a pdf. Do it last, after all fixes are done. If you remove notes too early, you lose the feedback you still need.

Live check, 27 October 2026: this tool was tested on the live site with a file containing Link, Text and Highlight annotations. The output had no annotations left, and the main text was kept. Still, open the output and check it yourself, page by page, before you share it. A password-protected file will not work until you unlock your own copy first. A scanned file has no real annotations in the same way, because its pages are pictures, so this tool will not add searchable text to it. A very large file can be slow on a phone.

Frequently asked questions

What is an annotation, in simple words?

An annotation is a note, comment or highlight added on top of a page. It is not part of the original text. Think of a sticky note on a printed page.

Will this tool delete my main text?

No, it should only remove the added notes and highlights. If any main text is missing in the result, do not use that file. Use your draft copy and try again.

Can I remove only one comment and keep the rest?

This tool removes annotations from the file as a whole. If you need to keep one comment, make a copy of the file first, and remove that single comment in a PDF reader before you use this tool.
